According to The Information, ByteDance is canceling the next version of the virtual reality headset from its Pico subsidiary, the Pico 5, after sales of its last headset, the Pico 4, fell far short of ByteDance's expectations. It is reported that ByteDance's main hardware focus now is to develop a high-end Apple Vision Pro competitor that incorporates "cutting-edge technology". According to foreign media reports, the project is code-named Swan. However, the Swan project is "still very much in the experimental and conceptual stage." If The reports of The Information are true, it's clear that ByteDance is moving from a short-term competition with Meta in VR gaming to a long-term strategy to compete with Apple in "spatial computing."
